You ask and I serve


Jake is coming home from work in about 7 minutes. You hold the box in your hand, worried to open it. You and Jake aren’t married until two weeks and you definitely weren’t ready for something like this. You work up the courage to open the box. You bite the inside of your lip to release nervous energy.

You pull down your pants and sit on the toilet. Your thoughts are racing. What are you going to do with a baby? You continue to follow the directions. After you finish, you grab some tissue and put it on the counter. On top of that, you set the pregnancy test down. You sit in the floor and let your mind twist and turn.

Jake will be home in five minutes and the box said two minutes until you get a result. Your heart is racing and then you hear the door open.He’s home early. Your heart stops and your mind stops. “Babe,” you hear Jake’s voice from the kitchen. “Hey,” your voice cracks. He comes to the door and opens it. One more minute.

“What’re you doing in the floor, silly?” he smiles so sweetly. He sees the box on the floor and the test on the counter. “You’re..?” He trails off. “I haven’t found out yet,” you say, turning your head to look at him. He slides down the wall next to you. “Ok,” he says, looking straight. He slides his fingers into yours and squeezes.

Has it been a minute yet? This has been the longest minute you’ve ever gone through. You look at Jake and say, “I think it’s time to check.” You try to get up but he stops you. “Whatever it is, I love you. I will take care you and the baby. Your going to be my wife in two weeks and even if your pregnant I’m going to love you and this baby with my whole heart okay?”

“Okay.”

You have tears in your eyes from his speech. You hug him and stand up. You grab the test.

“Babe, grab that paper,” you tell Jake. “Is two positive or negative?” Jake smiles real big and you assume the answer is no. You’re heart is a little sad because of his speech and a little more sad because of how happy he is about it. “We’re having a baby.” He whispers, more to himself than you. “What did you say?” Jake bites his bottom lip with excitement. “I’M GOING TO BE A DAD!” he yells, standing and spinning you around.

“I love you my soon to be wife and future baby.” He says kissing you.

“We love you too, you big goof,” you say kissing him back.

Oh he definitely cries and then Baby cries because seeing him cry makes her cry, so then at the altar he’s taking the handkerchief (which was a pre wedding present from her) and wiping her tears and kissing her on the cheek before he takes her hands and the ceremony starts. Jake is def the kind of guy that may end up kissing baby a few times during the entire ceremony because he just can’t wait. 😅

Relieve Me Of My Burdens With A Kiss

It’s always nerve-wracking to see your babies hurt or sick and know you’re not able to do more than you’re already doing. It hurts even more to see your husband go through the same pain you are. It had started off as a fever for poor little Everly, but as a mom of three, you thought you knew exactly how to handle fevers. After all, Arabella had fevers as a baby and so did James. But this fever wouldn’t drop despite every technique you applied. You’d been near tears when you’d called Jake on the phone and told him you were loading the kids into the car to take your baby girl to the hospital.

“I’ll meet you there, Sweets,” was all he said before hanging up. Thankfully the hospital ER was mostly empty, but you weren’t expecting to hear that she’d have to be admitted to the ICU. By the time Jake blasts through the doors at the end of the hallway, hair mussed and khakis creased, you’re already working yourself into a panic attack. Arabella and James are on one of the waiting room sofas, James with headphones in his ears and Arabella reading a book. But you’re at wits end. The worry, the ever-present worry and panic that resides in your diaphragm and has ever since you gave birth to Ari is roiling. You’ve been cataloging everything you did and running your actions over and over again in your mind.

Jake takes one look at you, tugs you out of the older kids’ earshot, and wraps you in his arms.

“It’ll be alright, sweetheart. The doctors will help our Evie girl.” His voice is a rumble in his chest as you sob with your head over his heart.

“B-but what if it’s something I did? I-I can’t lose her, Jake. She’s only four months old. She’s our baby.” Jake’s lips are gentle against your brow as he kisses your head.

“Nothing is going to happen to our baby, sweets. She’ll be back to our giggling, bouncy mischievous baby girl in no time.” You sniffle even as you nod, stepping away to take Jake’s hand in your own.

His wedding band is smooth against your palm, the metal shiny and worn after years of wearing it every day. You fixate on the feeling of Jake’s hand in yours and focus on hoping that Evie will be alright.

“Captain and Mrs. Seresin?” The doctor’s voice brings your worry back to the forefront of your mind.

“How’s Everly doing, Doctor?” Your voice is tremulous as Jake wraps an arm around your waist.

“You’ve got one strong little girl, Mrs. Seresin.She’s just got a regular run of the mill viral bug, probably something she caught from her siblings. Some fluids here in the hospital tonight and a round of the medicines we prescribe and she will be back to herself in no time at all.”

Your sigh of relief goes unheard as Jake finishes speaking to the Doctor and leads you into the hospital room. Evie’s so tiny in the crib, her rambunctious fists and feet still. Your fingers are light as you brush her honey blond tresses off her forehead and kiss her little brow.

“You’ll be alright, baby girl. Mama and Daddy are right here waiting for you to wake up, okay, darling? We’re right here.” Jake’s voice is hushed and gentle and rough like he’s holding back tears.

You curl your hand around his collar and kiss him, pouring all of your love and relief into the kiss.

“She’s going to be alright, Jake. Our baby girl’s going to be perfectly healthy soon.” He blinks back tears before kissing you again soft and slow, ignoring Arabella’s tween sounds of disgust at her parents kissing.

Time Warp AU - #14

Well this update just didn't want to come together. But finally it's done (all 8K+ of it 😬) and I'm actually rather happy with how it turned out.

So I hope you all enjoy this offering of Pete emotional H/C with a side of parental Icemav.

Honestly, Pete had never really got the big deal about birthdays. Sure, when he was little they seemed important. They’re supposed to, when you’re young. But he wasn’t a child anymore. 

He’d learned a long time ago that simply managing to make it through the year wasn’t exactly cause for celebration. A few rounds of people forgetting, ignoring, or scoffing at him for waiting for some kind of acknowledgment of the date had made it all very clear to him - nobody gives a damn about stuff like that, and you look pathetic if anybody catches on that you might. 

So he didn’t. Doesn’t.

Mav: Dear, you know I'm an aviator.


Amelia: But they said you are very smart. No-one studies with me, please! It's a very easy question. Just teach in a way that I don't confuse "metaphors" with "similes".


Mav /flattered/: All right. Look, my dear, if you say "You are hot like ice", it will be simile. Drop "as" or "like" or any other preposition LIKE😉 them, there you have a metaphor. You got that now? *thinks he gave her the best explanation, and proud of himself*


Amelia: What! Uncle Mav, wrong example I guess…? You mean, "You're cold as ice," right?


Penny: Amelia, dear, your "Uncle Mav" is an idiot, please don't listen to him!

Five Headcanons for Mav, Ice, Slider, and Goose

(neither Ice or Goose died in my mind OR CAROLE FOR THAT MATTER] :

Mav -

  • A menace to society
  • Attracts alot of animals, mostly birds [geese mostly] :)
  • Easily distracted/hyperfocused sometimes (me projecting onto a character? Nooo)
  • Can't cook for his life, but can bake stuff
  • French heritage (again me projecting onto a character? No neverrr)

Ice -

  • Can cook and bake the most delicious stuff on the planet
  • Either loves just cats or loves dogs (maybe both), doesn't mind birds
  • Also a menace to society, but in a way that a fox is sneaky, so no one suspects him
  • Very peculiar about how things are supposed to be and about how things are done. (Once again me projecting? Neveeer) [Mav did the dishes once. Once. He never did them again.]
  • Either Polish or Ukranian heritage

Slider -

  • German Heritage
  • Enabler of all Mav and Goose Shenanigans when he can be (God help the Iceman when he does)
  • Always has a walkman on him, also gives the best hugs
  • Very very tall, taller than Ice by a little bit
  • Helps Ice make food when he can, and supervises Mav in the Kitchen so he doesn't burn anything down. Again.

And best for last, Goose! -

  • Can cook, but can't bake anything
  • Also an enabler of Mav and Slider Shenanigans (God help Ice when all three are plotting something)
  • Loves Carole and Bradley so so so much
  • Best Hugs (second to Slider's)
  • He sometimes just picks Mav off the floor (ground?) like how people dangle their cats?? He holds Mav like that [Mav just lets him]

Icemav Petnames

Sweetheart- They both use this , but Mav uses it when he's feeljng clingy and wants his soft Ice cuddles.

Darling/ Darlin' - Ice uses darling, Mav says darlin', cause he likes to be a cowboy (I've just shakes his head and laughs softly at his darling).

Menace - As you may have already guessed, only Ice uses this, usually when Mavs being particularly bratty and mavericky.

Beloved - Ohh this one is all Mav, when he's being romantic and smooth. He purrs it into Ices ear and Ice just melts.
